Artemis is a space colony sci-fi action/thriller that follows Jazz, a somewhat devoted daughter and worker by day, smuggler by night (if the moon really has a night). She lives in the one and only lunar colony named Artemis. She comes up with a plan to get rich (or at least comfortable) that isn’t quite legal, but then finds herself in the middle of a lunar conspiracy that threatens her life and the lives of the very few people she actually cares about.
This novel is by Andy Weir, who wrote Project Hail Mary and The Martian. I will start off by saying it’s not as good as his other two books. Well, more like I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other two, but it was still good. I listened to it as an audiobook, and Rosario Dawson did a fantastic job with the narration. It’s not Jeff Hays (Dungeon Crawler Carl narrator), but I’d listen to any other books she narrated. I feel like between the two of them, I’m becoming quite the audiobook narrator snob.
Jazz, as a character, is selfish and very much a criminal, which is very different from Andy Weir’s other main characters. If you’re more into thrillers and mysteries, you should like this novel. If you’re looking more for the same feels you got from Project Hail Mary and The Martian, you won’t really get that from Artemis. Probably why I wasn’t as big into it as I was with the other two Andy Weir books.
