Hot for Slayer follows Aethelthryth, a thousand-year-old vampire, as she tries to stay one step ahead of Lazlo, her bloodline’s personal Slayer. She seems to run into him every decade or so and lives in fear of when he will find her again.
Aethelthryth has another problem now, however, after another Vampire moves in on her turf in New York City. She believes the Vampire is just a baby Vampire compared to her, but then bites off more than she can suck when the Teenage Dirtbag Vampire ambushes her. Lazlo appears and saves her, only for him to hit his head hard. Aethelthryth debates just killing Lazlo then and there while he is unconscious, but can’t let herself do it. Lazlo wakes with amnesia, but the one thing he feels is that he does not hate Aethelthryth.
This is a cute enemies-to-lovers novella between two different immortals who have been fighting each other for a thousand years. It’s a very quick read, but Ali Hazelwood manages to craft a complete story that doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything, even as a novella.
I’ll give it 4.5 stars and 5 raccoons.
