Shine & Shadow is book 2 in the Second Fate of Elodie Devine.
Book 2 starts shortly after book 1 ends, with Elodie’s matches finding out she is their mate. Elodie continues keeping secrets, but slowly starts opening up more with all four men. This series is one of the few reverse harems where I can truly tell each of the men apart. So many times the men all feel the same, but in Eva Chase’s series, she does a great job making them all distinct. This series is literally the only reverse harem that I can say I enjoyed.
I think I enjoyed this one more than book 1, though I also gave book 1 four stars. There was a lot of healing in Shine & Shadow, and while it ends up bringing up more questions than it ultimately answers, I was happy that the communication started opening up.
There’s a bit more spice in this one compared to book 1, and after Shine & Shadow, I want to continue with the series.
I would say the only thing that throws me off is everyone’s ages. In this universe, at least everyone is in their 20s, versus Elodie’s original universe where she matched with them all as teens. I just feel like they don’t all act their ages; some act very mature, and others act like teens. I think if the characters acted their ages consistently, I’d lean more towards 5 stars. I keep forgetting how old they are in some scenes.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
