Book Review: Violet Thistlewaite is Not A Villian Anymore by Emily Krempholtz

Violet Thistlewaite wants to start over, after a lifetime of being a dark sorcerer’s minion, as the evil Thornwitch; she just doesn’t want to be a bad guy anymore. She wants to use her powers for good, so she decides to open a flower shop with her murderous, sentient houseplant. She creates beautiful flowers and plants for her new community in the shadow of her former evil master’s lair, but she finds a new thorn in her side… her landlord. Her landlord is Nathaniel, the town’s alchemist, trying to run his family’s apothecary shop in memory of his parents, who died years prior, and he’s slowly running the business into the ground.

Shortly after Violet arrives and sets up shop, a strange blight starts plaguing the town, and Nathaniel and she work together to figure out the cause. This causes the two of them to become close, but Violet is always afraid he will find out the truth about her evil past.

This is a cozy romance about a villain’s redemption arc. It had some good plot twists and a little bit of spice, and I just love a good redemption story with humor mixed in. I definitely recommend it for fantasy romance lovers who want something cozy and original.
