I received a review copy from HiddenGemsBooks and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This cookbook is packed with a great variety of quick and easy recipes. I particularly appreciated the inclusion of meal plans and shopping lists, both of which really reduce the mental load of weekly prep work.
One minor drawback for me was the structure of the meal plans. The guide suggests a unique dish for every single meal and snack. In my daily life, I prefer to cook in batches, aka making enough dinner to have for lunch the next day or prepping a few snacks to repeat throughout the week. I think most busy people might find it challenging to prep a completely different meal every time without using leftovers multiple times a week. It’s easy enough to exclude meals, but I know it might throw off the calorie and macro balance for those trying to follow a stricter diet.
The recipe variety itself is impressive. Breakfast options aren’t just limited to eggs or sweet pancakes; there is a broad spectrum to choose from, with very few dishes I wouldn’t personally try. I also appreciated that while it includes trendy ingredients like cottage cheese, it does so in tasteful amounts rather than over-relying on them.
On a more personal note, I found the book to be very chicken-heavy with fewer options for pork or red meat. While this is likely a pro for many on a weight loss journey, it was a bit of a hurdle for me due to a chicken allergy. However, if you are a fan of poultry-based healthy eating, you will find plenty to love here!
