Book Review: Mate by Ali Hazelwood

Mate by Ali Hazelwood is technically a follow-up to Bride; however, they are both standalone novels that can be read separately. I have not read Bride yet, but I followed along fine with Mate, as there is enough information dropped to get the gist of what happened in Bride.

The story is about Serena, a human-were hybrid – the first of her kind – who is bonded to an Alpha Were who both fight against the bond while also keeping Serena out of Vampyre hands.

Its a contemporary fantasy in an alternative universe where Weres, Vampyres, and Humans live hand in hand, but the World is separated into various territories between the three.

I had been eyeing this book for a while and finally broke down and put it in my own Christmas stocking to read over my winter vacation.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, the characters were all well fleshed out, and like others on my favs list, I read this bad boy in less than 2 days. I didn’t want to put it down.

I’m pretty picky about the contemporary fantasies that I read because not many appeal to me as I tend to lean more towards more strict fantasy. But this book converted me to read a few more contemporary fantasies with Alpha Weres and pact dynamics.

5 out of 5 stars for me!
